UNHAPPY WITH THE SHAPE OR SIZE OF YOUR NOSE? – RHINOPLASTY FAQS

No particular feature affects your appearance quite like the nose. Cosmetic surgery may seem like a daunting experience when it comes to altering such a prominent feature on your face, but for the right individual, nose shaping surgery can be truly transforming to both your appearance and self-confidence.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty a.k.a a nose job, is cosmetic surgery involving reshaping or resizing to the nose. In some cases a nose job is performed to correct breathing problems.

How do I know if I am a good candidate for Rhinoplasty?

If you are a healthy person in your late teens or an adult with realistic expectations wanting to improve the appearance and/or function of your nose, you may be the perfect candidate. Generally, rhinoplasty should be avoided before the face and nose have completed most of their growth.

Is rhinoplasty surgery painful?

Most patients experience some mild to moderate discomfort after rhinoplasty for a few days, but the pain is often less intense than they expect. Any pain can generally be controlled through medication prescribed by your surgeon.

How long does swelling last?

Roughly two-thirds of swelling resolves within the first month, 95% after 6 months and almost 100% after 1 year. Most patients can expect to return to work within a week or two and to more strenuous activity a few weeks after that.

What are the risks of Rhinoplasty?

Risks are not common however may include infection, nose bleed, swelling, bruising, numbness, reaction to anaesthesia and need for a secondary nose surgery (revision rhinoplasty).

Probably the largest risk is unrealistic expectation.  ‘The perfect nose’ is unlikely to be and end-result. The human body is too complex for that. If you are unable to minutely examine every crease or angle for imperfections, then you should not undergo rhinoplasty.

What is Revision Rhinoplasty?

This is a procedure completed to fix a past nose job. It can be more complex, however, as the nose has already been altered and may be more structurally weaker that it originally way. Regardless, if needed, it can be satisfying for those who didn’t achieve the results they were originally hoping for.

When will I be able to see the results?

Results are not instant. The altered shape is visible as soon as any dressings come off(at about 1 week), however throughout the first year following the surgery the nose will become more refined with better definition. Most surgeons suggest waiting for this time to pass before making any final judgements.
