Are you deep or superficial?
Your belly fat can either be ‘subcutaneous’ fat that lays just under the skin or deep ‘visceral’ fat which surrounds your organs.
When it comes to plastic surgery, it’s only the superficial, subcutaneous fat that can be treated.
Visceral fat, around the organs and under the muscles, can only be addressed through weight loss and lifestyles factors. It resides deep within the torso, wrapping itself around your heart, liver, and other major organs. It’s the “hidden” belly fat that is most detrimental to our health.
Subcutaneous fat is the fat that you can see or pinch because it lays just under the skin. This is the type of fat that may be treated through both non-surgical and surgical treatments.
How Do I Know?
If your belly is protruding you might think a tummy tuck or liposuction is the answer but it depends on the depth of your fat.
At the Eden Institute, Dr Edinburg or one of our trained Registered Nurses will assess whether your protruding tummy is due to excess fat, loose skin, separated muscles or deep, visceral fat.
