COSMETIC SURGERY VICTIM EVITA SARMONIKAS’ SISTER FIGHTS FOR JUSTICE IN MEXICO

post surgery laser rejuvenation

We are saddened to hear again of the story of the passing of a young Australian woman, Evita Sarmonikas from a cosmetic surgery procedure in Mexico a year ago.

Following the Sunday Night program that aired last night on Seven Network, we are thinking of Evita’s family and friends as they search for answers.

We urge everyone to undertake rigorous due diligence around the services being offered in any surgical procedure in Australia or abroad. This should include a check of the surgeon’s credentials including the surgeon’s qualifications and experience, registration with relevant medical associations, the medical facilities to be used, and the care on offer before, during and after surgery, among many other important criteria.
In Australia we have very high standards of training and exceptional expertise available. We recognise that many Australians are seeking reduced-cost procedures abroad, but we urge everyone to be fully aware of the potential risks at hand.

For independent verification and advice please visit www.asps.org or contact the Australian Society of Plastic Surgery.
